OVER THE YEARS, a number of my clients have expressed an interest in investing in a manner consistent with their consciences; whether it be by choosing to avoid alcohol and tobacco businesses, gambling enterprises or defense-related industries, or choosing to support companies that treat their employees well or have solid environmental track records.

Many of these investors have expressed an interest not only in making money, but in making a difference too. They would like to take into account the ethics, social responsibility, corporate governance and environmental records of the companies they invest in.

This is now commonly referred to as Environmental, Social and Governance investing or ESG. ESG investing is growing as more investors adopt the philosophy that investments should not only create value, but also reflect their values.

Recognizing this need, over the last few years, a number of reputable firms including Barclays Ishares, Fidelity and Vanguard have introduced products devoted to ESG investing. Therefore, Farrell Financial is now able to offer a broadly diversified ESG-friendly stock investing portfolio, that is in accordance with sound principles of investment and has reasonable costs.
